Who is Kars4Kids?
Kars4Kids began as a small grassroots initiative in the United States, growing into the leading car donation organization there, using the proceeds of donated cars to impact the lives of thousands of children and their families.
Oorah Hakitzah, a registered nonprofit in Israel, was one of many programs under the Kars4Kids umbrella. Oorah Hakitzah provides a warm home and support for young adults studying in Israel from abroad, many of them graduates of other Kars4Kids-funded programs.
In 2022, with the help of Kars4Kids’ expertise and resources, Oorah Hakitzah launched its own car donation program, Kars4Kids Israel, to support its year-round programs.
What do we do?
Many Jewish youth are interested in coming to Israel and living there. Without knowledge of the language and culture, and often without relatives living in Israel, adapting to life in a new country entails many challenges. This may discourage the young people and even prevent them from realizing their goals.
Our mission is to fulfill the various needs of the youth and give them all the support they need in order to develop and succeed in Israel. The donations we receive allow us to offer many forms of support to every boy and girl participating in the program.
What support to we provide to the students?
Tuition assistance:
Acquiring a higher education in Israel has many advantages, but for many teenagers it is an unattainable ambition, due to the high costs involved. Kars4Kids makes the dream a reality and subsidizes the tuition fees of the participants in the program in Israel.
Help with living costs:
A year in Israel involves a variety of living costs: paying rent, food and other expenses. We provide all program participants with a monthly allowance, the purpose of which is to cover the various living costs.
Social support:
Staying in a new country, without family or friends, can make adaptation difficult and overwhelming. For this reason, our program also includes several types of social support.
Personal mentoring:
There is nothing like a personal mentor to provide support in any situation, answer any need, and allow for an easier and more pleasant acclimatization. The personal mentoring continues throughout the youth’s participation period in the program, and includes getting together at least once a week.
Many of the mentors remain in close contact with their mentees even after the program ends.
Community:
We believe that belonging to an active community increases the chances of success and is directly related to the feeling of personal well-being.
That’s why we created a supportive and cohesive community, made up of youth participating in the program and their mentors, and includes meetings and events throughout the year.
